I never imagined spending the holidays in a shelter with my daughter. When I made the decision to leave, it was sudden, and we had to leave our home and everything we owned behind. I didn’t have family nearby, and I felt completely alone.
Both my daughter and I were provided with counselling sessions at Yellow Brick House, and that support made all the difference. Through these sessions, we were able to process everything that had happened and start to feel safe again.
The gift cards I received allowed me to buy holiday gifts for my daughter and create a sense of home and normalcy, even during a challenging time. It wasn’t about the presents themselves, it was about making the holiday feel familiar and special.
That holiday season was difficult, but thanks to Yellow Brick House and the counselling and support we received, we were able to feel safe, cared for, and hopeful. There was no greater gift than being able to provide my daughter with safety.
