Shoppers Foundation for Women’s Health Raises $96,300 in Support of Yellow Brick House

 In Yellow Brick House News

Thanks to the generosity of local Shoppers Drug Mart stores, $96,300 was raised to support women and children seeking safety from domestic violence in York Region.

Shoppers Foundation for Women’s Health hosts an annual Giving Shelter Campaign, and Yellow Brick House was selected as the charity of choice by 50 individual Shoppers Drug Mart stores to raise funds in support of our programs and services. Customer donations made at checkout directly funded emergency shelter beds, crisis counselling, safety planning, transitional housing support, and other essential services for survivors of abuse.

Supporting Emergency Shelter and Life-Saving Services

Yellow Brick House operates 41 emergency shelter beds and 10 cribs, providing immediate safety for women and children fleeing domestic violence and abuse. These spaces are more than temporary accommodations; they are secure, supportive environments where survivors can regain a sense of safety and stability, access mental health counselling, and begin rebuilding their lives.

In Canada, a woman or child is killed by domestic violence every two days. In 2024 alone, 221 women and girls lost their lives. The need for accessible, community-based domestic violence services in York Region remains urgent.

Funds raised through the Giving Shelter campaign strengthened frontline services, ensuring survivors received both immediate protection and long-term support.

A Community Partnership Making a Measurable Impact

The cheque presentation was held in February 2026, highlighting the partnership between local Shoppers Drug Mart stores, community members, and Yellow Brick House. This collaboration demonstrated the powerful role that collective support can play in helping women and children access life-saving services when they need them most.
