How can you help?

Know Where to Direct
Be aware of the services that are available in York Region for youth that may be at-risk of homelessness. See the Resources (link this to the Resources section) section for a list of such resources and check out the Youth Reach Educator Booklet.

Don’t Judge
Through surveys and interviews, homeless youth – and youth in general – have identified a desire to not feel judged by adults that they interact with. Youth want to feel understood and approved or, or at least respected. To keep those lines of communication open that are needed to help these youth avoid homelessness, the youth have to trust adults.

Advocate for more Services
York Region has been said to be afflicted by ‘big city problems with small town funding’. Our youth are often forced to access services from the City of Toronto, which is difficult with the available transportation. This often results in youth migrating to the streets of Toronto and causes further isolation and creates a larger obstacle to securing stable housing.
