Youth Action Committee
Name calling, put downs, jealousy, manipulation, humiliation – These have no place in a healthy relationship, but more than 88% of teens who are dating say that emotional abuse is happening in their relationship. The media makes it seem that violence and abuse are normal, even deserved. It’s made into a joke – and that doesn’t help anyone. People don’t always know this behaviour is abuse. They don’t always know they deserve better. They don’t always know where to turn.
If you want to be involved in raising awareness about dating violence, if you want to make a difference for your friends and peers, consider applying for the Youth Action Committee (YAC). The YAC will plan and host events that are designed to promote healthy relationships with friends, family and dating partners. The YAC will represent the diversity of York Region and will strive promote equality for everyone. They will help advise programs and policies for community and social services, making them more accessible and youth-friendly.
If you are between the ages of 13-24 and live in York Region – please apply. We are looking for youth to represent and reach the youth of York Region. You don’t have to be a straight A student. You don’t have to have any previous volunteer experience. Everyone has something to contribute. We want to hear what you have to say.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 14, 2012.
